Custom Controller Cabinet Assembly

Northwest Signal Supply, Inc. has been providing fully wired NEMA cabinets for years. They have a trained staff on board to service the particular design and fabrication needs of customers in a manner that meets the highest quality standards in the industry.

Wouldn’t it be nice to get a product that you specified? Would you like to receive your cabinet with all the switches and components exactly where you requested them?

When you order a cabinet from Northwest Signal Supply you do not have to worry about that. We will build your cabinet to your specifications. If you do not know what your specification is or should be, we can also help you in that area. We can come to your shop and go over what you want in your cabinet and help you in the design. Every cabinet we build at NWS is custom built. We review the plans and specifications of every cabinet we have on order. We custom design the cabinet to the end users preferences. You do not have to accept a “stock” cabinet from someone that has features that you do not use or want.

NWS builds every cabinet from the ground up. We do not buy pre-assembled parts; we custom build everything. The back panel, left wall, right wall, power panel, detector rack, etc, are all built from bare metal to the finished product. This material is then mounted in the cabinet.

The cabinet is then sent to the wireman who wires up the subassemblies to each other using the wiring schematic that is supplied to the shop. After the cabinet wiring is complete, it is sent to the Quality Control (QC) department. QC will then verify that the cabinet is built to the plans and specifications for that particular job.

The cabinet is then powered up in a controlled fashion, to check all the functions that are inherent to the cabinet. After the cabinet is up and operational, the test equipment is removed and the supplied equipment is installed in the cabinet. Every function is tested at this time and verified to work properly.

If the cabinet is for a specific intersection, the cabinet is then set up for that intersection (conflict monitor card programmed, load switch jumpers installed, controller programmed, etc). Some customers require an environmental testing of the cabinet and all electronics inside the cabinet. This is performed by slowly raising the temperature in the chamber to 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). The temperature is held for 24 hours and the voltage is increased to 135 VAC at this time and held also for 24 hours. The temperature is then decreased to -30 degrees F (-34 degrees C), this temperature is also held for 24 hours and the voltage is decreased to 95 VAC and held for 24 hours. The cabinet and equipment are then returned to ambient temperature and if there have been zero failures, the cabinet and equipment get documented as passed and the cabinet can be shipped to the customer.

Many providers outsource their supply of back panels and enclosures, but Northwest Signal Supply manufactures and wires these items on site, giving the production managers complete control of the supply of material. This allows us to better service our customers.

M1 ATC Controller

The M1 ATC is crafted to move more vehicles and people by providing innovative control tools, such as built-in adaptive control, programmable logic for user-created solutions, complete master control features, plus flashing yellow left turn arrow logic which is easy to program and very powerful.

The M1 ATC hardware, controller firmware and PC software is supported as a whole by Northwest Signal Supply’s experienced and knowledgeable team. No longer is it necessary to call multiple vendors to answer a question.

Electro-Luminescent Display (EL). The most visible aspect of the M1 is the integrated 240x120 electro-luminescent display with simple user interface. The M1 display generates a viewable screen in extreme lighting conditions and fully operable throughout the NEMA temperature range (-30ºF to +165ºF).

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Rugged. The M1 EL display is built for demanding conditions: cold, heat, wind, dust, vibration, sunlight—even g-forces.
  • Reliable. The M1 EL display is field proven in variable environments such as in military tanks and industrial equipment. The EL Display has been proven to retain its luminance after more than 100,000 hours of operation.
  • Visible. The proprietary ICEBrite (Integral Contrast and Brightness Enhancement) technology offers unparalleled text quality in a wide range of challenging visual conditions.

Ease of Use. The M1 separates itself from its competitors by a comprehensive user interface which includes context sensitive help, 30+ dynamic run screens; and card-rack style modules for easy upgrades.

State of the Art. The M1 was fabricated with the ATC controller in mind. The controller uses an industry standard operating system and supports multiple protocols, including AB3418E, NTCIP, and NWSCentral.

Made in U.S.A. The M1 from the beginning to finish has been designed, manufactured, tested, assembled and supported in the United States of America.

Communication. The M1 comes complete with a full complement of communication ports.

Control. The M1 uses traditional and revolutionary traffic control features to allow the user to have extreme flexibility when creating an ideal traffic control solutions.

Rugged and Durable. In an industry that demands durability, the M1 enclosure is made of 1/8” thick formed aluminum. The M1 encases itself in an all metal form, from the outside casing to the A/B/C/D connectors. The M1 is fabricated not just to withstand the full NEMA environmental requirements, but also to maintain its full functionality.
